Since the 1990s, the process of urbanization in China has been advancing rapidly, and the total annual discharge of urban sewage has increased year by year, as shown in Figure 9-1
.

The annual output of sludge and the expected output in 2020 are shown in Figure 9-2 (80% moisture content).
