According to a report in Houston on June 27, nearly two-thirds (64%) of oil and gas industry leaders expect to increase or maintain spending on natural gas projects this year as the industry prepares to replace oil as the world's main energy source
in the mid-30s.

Of the 813 industry veterans surveyed, an overwhelming majority (86%) believe natural gas – the least carbon-intensive fossil fuel – will play an increasingly important role in the global energy mix over the next decade, up from 77%
last year.

According to DNV GL's 2017 Energy Transition Outlook report, global demand for natural gas will peak
by the mid-30s.
