NatureWorks compostable coffee capsules have completed microleak testing

Recently, new progress has been made in the research and development of K-cup compatible compostable coffee capsules jointly launched by NatureWorks and IMA Coffee Lab

The capsules are made of low-carbon Ingeo PLA developed by Natureworks and are currently undergoing preliminary filling trials and are expected to accelerate the testing process with ideal results

It is understood that IMA Coffee Labs is conducting compatibility testing of capsules, filters and capping films to determine optimal material sealing parameters and constraints, and to properly set up IMA packaging machinery for rapid capsule shell filling

The current results of the complex micro-leak detection tests conducted by the IMA coffee laboratory are optimistic and help to move the process forward, hopefully into the next stage of coffee extraction trials

The new one-shot thermoforming capsule design process developed by NatureWorks will continue to produce precision capsules that meet IMA packaging machine filling and sealing specifications
