Nestlé Philippines has partnered with Plastic Credit Exchange (PCEx) to add multiple collection points for soft plastic waste in the Philippines
.
Through the partnership, Nestlé Philippines will support PCEx to collect plastic waste in the Tondo area in Manila, the Payatas area in Quezon City and the Rodriguez area in Rizal Province
.
The soft plastic waste collected includes packaging such as grocery bags, bread bags and snack food plastic bags such as biscuits, potato chips, french fries packaging
.
The latest move is part of Nestlé Philippines' plastic waste collection, recovery and recycling program, which the company claims is a new phase in reducing its plastic footprint
.
"As plastic waste continues to accumulate in landfills and oceans, the need to address plastic pollution has never been more urgent," said Kais Marzouki, Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Philippines
.
“We will consider a variety of solutions to complex packaging challenges, and continue to adopt the various solutions we currently have in place
.
Philippine nonprofit PCEx is an offshoot of Hope in a Bottle, a bottled water brand committed to partnering with the state Department of Education to spend 100 percent of its profits on building public schools
.
Nanette Medved-Po, founder and president of PCEx, added: "In a sense, HOPE's journey from sustainability to plastic credit trading began with Nestlé
.
He explained, “A few years ago, the CEO of Nestlé Philippines contacted me about a project supported by Nestlé
.
Since then, HOPE has started exploring affordable sustainable ways for businesses to hold companies accountable for their plastic footprint
.
” In 2019 In 2018, we built the Plastic Credit Exchange based on our experience, and then this opportunity came together, and we thought Nestlé would be the right partner given our shared sustainability goals
