since 1981, official figures showed.

According to government statistics released last week, the share of renewable energy increased
from 79% in the second quarter of 2017 and 81.
2% in January-March 2018.
The country's renewable energy facilities generated 11,046 GWh, up from 10,881 GWh
in the same period last year.
This increase was helped by favorable hydropower and wind conditions
over a three-month period.

At the same time, non-renewable energy production fell 27%
year-on-year due to lower natural gas and coal-fired power generation.

In the second quarter, wind farms generated 560 GWh, an increase of 11.
9%
year-on-year.
Hydroelectric power generation rose 12.
9% to 6,843 GWh, the largest renewable energy source, followed by geothermal energy with 1,841 GWh and natural gas with 1,340 GWh

Solar power is only 23 GWh

James Hogan, Energy and Construction Trends Manager at New Zealand's Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), noted that renewable generation this quarter coincided
with planned shutdowns at the Marsden Point refinery in the northern region and low production at the Pohokura gas field.
