The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Pakistani government signed a $284 million loan and grant agreement on Thursday to improve Pakistan's transmission network
.
The Asian Development Bank said the project will help provide a more stable and secure power supply, contributing to
continued productivity gains and economic development.
ADB is working with the government and the private sector to further develop Pakistan's electricity supply chain, including the expansion of the transmission network
.
The agreement is the third disbursement
of the Multi-Channel Financing Facility (MFF) under the ADB-backed Second Transmission Investment Program.
MFF aims to build a stronger, smarter, greener and more climate-resilient transmission system
in Pakistan.
The segment includes a $280 million loan from ADB's General Capital Resources and a $4 million grant from the Advanced Technology Fund (HLTF) to help Pakistan's National Transmission and Distribution Corporation (NTDC) effectively meet the country's 1,150 MW electricity demand
.
To achieve this, it will deploy high-level technology and climate-resilient transmission systems
through load centres in Punjab.
