Akulon® RePurposed is a high-performance polymer made by DSM from discarded fishing nets recovered from the Indian Ocean
.
The launch of the new Galaxy S22 series of smartphones and the Tab S8 tablet is an important milestone in the sustainable development of smart devices and demonstrates DSM’s commitment to promoting a circular economy through innovation in recyclable materials
.

Launched in 2018, Akulon® RePurposed, a high-performance recycled marine plastic, is produced by DSM in partnership with communities along India's coastline from recycled discarded fishing nets
.
These discarded fishing nets are processed to produce this high-performance polymer, which contains at least 80% recycled high-strength polyamide 6
.

DSM teamed up with Samsung Electronics to customize Akulon® RePurposed material to meet the high-performance requirements of the new Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 series
.
This material is used on a variety of important components, including the button holder for the Galaxy S22 series, the internal holder for the S Pen stylus, and the internal holder for the Tab S8 series
.
Akulon® RePurposed high-performance recyclable marine plastics are unique in their ability to achieve excellent balance and excellent mechanical properties, and have been used in a variety of industries including automotive, consumer products and electronics
