Auto parts maker Plastic Omnium has announced a strategic partnership with energy company TotalEnergies to design and develop a new plastic material made from recycled polypropylene that meets automotive aesthetic and safety standards
.
According to reports, the two companies plan to design new recycled materials to enhance the performance of recycled plastics and realize the delivery of waste plastic recycling
.
The new material will contain 20% to 100% recycled material, mainly from industrial and household waste
.
The companies estimate that the carbon dioxide impact of these materials is six times lower than using virgin plastic
.
TotalEnergies says the use of plastics in car bodies helps reduce carbon emissions
.
This will also reduce the overall weight of the vehicle, helping to reduce the fuel usage of vehicles with internal combustion engines and making electric vehicles more environmentally friendly
.
“Partnering with PIO Group will help develop higher-quality, greener recycled plastics that will help our OEM and automaker customers reduce their carbon footprint,” said érie Goff, Senior Vice President of Polymers.
The project will also help address the challenges of a circular economy and help us achieve our vision of producing 30% recycled and renewable polymers by 2030.
