China's metallocene polypropylene production level is gradually approaching the world's advanced level.

At present, the global demand for metallocene polypropylene has exceeded 500,000 tons.

Domestic metallocene polypropylene catalyst

In 2014, China Petroleum and Petrochemical Research Institute and Kazakhstan Petrochemical used the metallocene polypropylene catalyst as a breakthrough point, with the help of the development and industrial application of a new type of polypropylene catalyst in a special sub-project, and conducted joint research on metallocene transparent polypropylene products.

In late June 2017, the carrier metallocene polypropylene catalyst (PMP-01) independently developed by the Petrochemical Institute was used for the first time in the 80,000 tons/year batch liquid phase bulk polypropylene plant of Harbin Petrochemical Corporation to produce highly transparent metallocene.

On October 30, 2020, the metallocene polypropylene catalyst (MPP-S02) independently developed by China Petrochemical Institute was successfully tested in a large chemical company in Shandong.

The metallocene catalyst is a single active center catalyst, which has the characteristics of high activity, stable polymerization reaction, and good hydrogen regulation performance.

Domestic metallocene polypropylene products

In late June 2017, Harbin Petrochemical's 80,000-ton/year batch liquid phase bulk polypropylene plant was used for the first time to produce high-transparent metallocene polypropylene MPP6006.

After nearly 7 years of research, Yanshan Petrochemical successfully produced metallocene polypropylene products on March 16, 2018.

On December 16, 2020, the scientific research team of Yangzi Petrochemical Research Institute achieved a new breakthrough in the production process of metallocene polypropylene on the polypropylene pilot plant, and also realized the continuous and stable operation of metallocene polypropylene production.

Dushanzi Petrochemical is also trying to produce metallocene polypropylene products.

Compared with traditional polypropylene products, metallocene polypropylene has the characteristics of narrow molecular weight distribution, lower melting point, and no soluble short-chain block copolymers.

The metallocene polypropylene produced with metallocene catalysts also has small crystallites, excellent impact strength and toughness, good transparency, high gloss, good radiation resistance, excellent insulation properties, and compatibility with other resins.

Under the strong demand for masks, polypropylene meltblown materials, the raw materials for masks, can also be produced using metallocene catalysts.
