On May 7, 2020, PolyOne launched a newly formulated Bergamid™ laser weldable material in Asia for use in automotive parts, consumer products and medical devices

Polymers used for laser welding must allow at least 20% transmittance of laser energy

"Laser welding is technologically advanced, and its success depends on the weldability, transfer rate, softening point, absorber and color compatibility of the materials used," said Xu Tao, general manager of Specialty Engineered Materials Asia for PolyOne

To support manufacturers in using its new materials, PolyOne also offers a range of value-added services, including part design, material compatibility assessment and laser welding process selection
