Specialist manufacturer of thermoset tool boards Ru-bix (Norfolk, UK) has developed a new chemical formulation, RX-1200, for its 1200 density polyurethane tool board
    .
The new formulation is Ru-bix's innovative solution for continuous advancement and for numerous downstream engineering uses

    .

The new RX-1200 tool plate is said to be ideal for casting models and hammer tools
    .
According to Ru-bix, it has high strength, high gloss, and is easy to machine with minimal chipping

    .
The new formulation is also available in a range of custom sizes, making it a versatile, cost-effective solution for a variety of applications including vacuum forming

    .

Ru-Bix notes that tool boards of 1000kg/m3 or more are classified as high density and are typically used where manufacturing stress is high or where precise dimensional tolerances, sharp corner retention and excellent surface finish are required
    .
A reformulated 1200kg/m3 material was developed showing a very fine surface structure, which ultimately affects the surface finish of the tool board

    .

The RX-1200 formulation also maintains the same high dimensional stability
    .
This speaks to the toughness and stiffness of the material, showing resistance to wear and tearing over extended periods of time, making it ideal for extreme environmental conditions

    .
In addition, in ISO 178 and ISO 75 test methods, tooling and molding panels exhibit compressive strengths of up to 70 MPa and maximum flexural strengths of 80 MPa, and can be used in environments up to 85°C
