Globally diversified chemical company Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) today launched two new products containing pre-consumer recycled glass fiber - LNP™ ELCRIN™ WF006XXPiQ compound and LNP ELCRIN WF0061XPiQ compound
    .
The two materials are the first two grades in the LNP ELCRIN product line, which contain pre-consumer recycled glass fibers derived from industrial waste

    .
Both polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) compounds are 30% pre-consumer recycled short glass fiber reinforced materials with mechanical properties and color performance comparable to virgin glass fiber reinforced ELCRIN iQ grades

    .
ELCRIN iQ materials, which aim to support a circular economy, reduce plastic waste by using polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycled from discarded plastic bottles

    .
The launch of the LNP ELCRIN series further reduces its carbon footprint

    .

Luc Govaerts, Director of Formulation and Application Development, SABIC Specialty Materials business unit, said: “We are always looking for new ways to accelerate the carbon neutrality of materials in our product line
    .
We have undertaken various efforts to do this, including Evaluate each component of thermoplastic compounds and work with other partners in the industry chain to identify potential alternative materials that can drive a circular economy

    .
In this process, it is especially important to prioritize customer needs, because only in this way can improve the The material is sustainable while maintaining outstanding performance, consistent quality and outstanding processing efficiency

SABIC is one of the first material suppliers to use pre-consumer recycled glass in thermoplastic compounds
    .
According to Underwriters Laboratories' Recycled Content Validation (UL 2809), the short glass fibers used in the two new ELCRIN iQ materials contain 100% recycled content by mass balance

    .
Compared to virgin PBT reinforced with virgin glass fiber, LNP ELCRIN WF006XXPiQ compound contains 67% recycled content and has a 29% lower carbon footprint, while LNP ELCRIN WF0061XPiQ compound contains 55% recycled content and has a reduced carbon footprint 24%

    .

In addition to improving sustainability, these materials offer good structural properties (hardness and strength), chemical resistance, high thermal temperatures and colorability, making them suitable for a variety of applications in the consumer electronics, automotive, electrical and electronics industries
    .
In addition, LNP ELCRIN WF0061XPiQ compound has halogen-free flame retardant properties

    .
As drop-in replacements for existing virgin PBT and ELCRIN iQ grades, both materials help customers improve the sustainability of their applications without changing product designs or tooling

    .

Darpan Parikh, Head of Global Product Management, LNP Product Line, SABIC Specialty Materials Business Unit, added: "These two next-generation materials open up entirely new possibilities for customers to advance their 'carbon neutrality' strategy by further increasing the use of recycled content To reduce the carbon footprint of its products, while maintaining the original performance levels and processability
    .
For SABIC, the use of pre-consumer recycled glass fiber also reaffirms our commitment to optimizing resource use and helping customers achieve zero carbon goals

    .
    "

SABIC plans to expand the use of pre-consumer recycled glass fiber to reinforced compounds based on other resins in its specialty product line
    .
The company can provide samples of these new materials worldwide, and can customize formulations according to the specific needs of customers
