Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) has launched the first automotive-grade resins containing mechanically recycled content
    .
These products are part of the TRUCIRCLE™ portfolio of recycling solutions and services, consisting of three SABIC® T2E-3320EH PP compound, a high-flow, low-emission, talc-filled polypropylene (PP); and XENOY™ T2NX2500UV resin, a Unfilled, UV-stabilized polycarbonate (PC) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blend; and XENOY T2NX5230 resin, a mineral-filled PC/PET blend

    .
All three materials contain up to 29% recycled content and offer superior properties similar to existing virgin resins, providing new material options to help automotive customers achieve their sustainability goals

Abdullah Al-Otaibi, general manager of Sabic ETP and Market Solutions, said: “The new Trucircle materials extend the life of plastic waste and help add value to post-consumer products, supporting sustainability initiatives in the automotive industry
    .
These new products are the first of many Sabic resins incorporating mechanically recycled content can be used in automotive interior and exterior applications

    .

Sabic T2E-3320EH PP compound features high stiffness, low emissions and high heat resistance, and is suitable for heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) components not visible within the dashboard, as well as interior and under-hood components
    .
An internal life cycle assessment (LCA) has shown that the T2E-3320EH PP compound contains 25% recycled PP, thus reducing the carbon footprint of the product by up to 24% compared to the corresponding virgin PP compound

    .

Sabic's Xenoy T2NX2500UV resin contains 21% recycled PET and provides heat and impact resistance, dimensional stability and low shrinkage for painted exterior body panels, spoilers, fuel filler doors and trim
    .
It is also UV stabilized and can be used in unpainted applications

    .
Sabic's LCA data shows that Xenoy T2NX2500UV resin reduces global warming potential (GWP) by 11% and cumulative energy demand (CED) by 12% compared to virgin material

    .

Sabic's Xenoy T2NX5230 resin contains 16% mineral reinforcement and 29% recycled PET
    .
Similar to Xenoy T2NX2500UV resin, its properties make it a potential solution for painting body panels, trim and other components

    .
Compared to Xenoy T2NX2500UV resin, the enhanced version of this product has higher stiffness and lower coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE), making it ideal for roof spoilers and exterior trim

    .
Both Xenoy resins offer high flow for improved throughput
