Canadian News Agency news, CanArctic Inuit Networks in Toronto recently said that it will spend 107 million US dollars to build an optical fiber network system SednaLink connecting Newfoundland's Clarenville to Nunavut, the capital of the Nunavut region, with a total length of more than 2,000 kilometers

Nunavut, spun off from the eastern part of the original Northwest Territories in 1999, is the latest of Canada's provinces and is the third territory
in Canada after the Northwest Territories and Yukon.
Currently, all internet services in Nunavut operate via satellite, which is slower and less reliable than fiber optic connections

Madeleine Redfern, CanArctic's chief operating officer and former Iqaluit mayor, said the project will first bring fibre-optic internet to the capital of Nunavut and then expand to nearby communities

Redfern said, "She has been working for more than a decade to bring fiber optic internet to Ikaluit and Nunavut

We looked at all possible options, routes, risks and costs
.
We have embarked on a very realistic plan to build a fiber optic network system
within the next two years.

Redfern said CanArctic will apply to the federal government under the Universal Broadband Fund and "identified other sources of funding.

The Nunavut government, which has received a $151 million contribution from the federal government, has said it plans to build a 1,700-kilometre fiber-optic network system from Nuuk, Greenland
, to Ikaluit.
The region has committed $30 million to the system, which is expected to be completed
by 2023.
