[Application] Since the silica is a porous substance having a large specific surface, and the surface hydroxyl groups have some degree of polarity, and therefore preferentially adsorb polar molecules, such as silica gels commonly used as a dehydrating adsorbent, aromatic hydrocarbon adsorbent
Liu Xuegang et al.
Table 4-28 shows the static adsorption capacity (dry silica gel) and distribution coefficient (dry silica gel) of silica gel to adsorb Zr under different nitric acid concentrations

In order to understand the adsorption capacity of PAA silica gel for heavy metals, the static adsorption performance was measured, including the effect of pH on adsorption performance, adsorption balance, the effect of heavy metal ion concentration on adsorption performance, and the effect of temperature on adsorption performance.
Table 4-29 shows the equilibrium adsorption capacity of PAA-silica gel for 5 kinds of heavy metal ions at different temperatures under optimal pH conditions.
Li Yanbin and others used the coupling of γ-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane and grafted polyethyleneimine (PEI) on the surface of silica gel particles to prepare a composite adsorbent PEI/SiO 2 that has a strong adsorption effect on chromate.
