SK Capital, Heubach acquire Clariant's pigment business

SK Capital Partners and Heubach Group have acquired the pigments business of Clariant AG, which produces materials used in many plastic products

SK in New York and Heubach in Langelsheim, Germany value Clariant's pigment business at around CHF 805 million
.
The combined business will operate under the name Heubach, creating a global pigment leader with annual sales of more than $900 million, officials said at a June 14 press conference

Depending on the financial performance of the pigments division in 2021, the deal could add another CHF 50 million
.
As part of the transaction, Muttenz, Switzerland-based Clariant will reinvest a minority stake in the combined business
.

The acquired Pigments division is a global supplier of organic pigments, pigment preparations and dyestuffs with approximately 1,900 employees at 13 production sites worldwide

Officials said the businesses "share complementary product portfolios and regionally compatible asset footprints that will expand product offerings and wider geographic coverage to better serve customers

In a press release, Heubach CEO Johann Heubach said: "The combination between Heubach and Clariant pigments is perfect

"

“Our company has been in the pigment industry for over 200 years,” he added.
“My late father and I were both committed to driving the consolidation of the pigment industry, and the combination of Heubach and Clariant Pigments is an important milestone in that vision

”

Aaron Davenport, managing director of SK, said that Clariant Pigments "is a leading global provider of colorant solutions, and together with our new partner, we see a huge opportunity to create significant value for all stakeholders

Completion of the transaction is subject to customary conditions and approvals and is expected to take place in the first half of 2022

The deal comes nearly a year after Clariant sold its masterbatch division to Avient for $1.
