Recently, South Korea’s POSCO and SK Global Chemicals, a subsidiary of SK Innovation, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to produce lightweight composite materials for automobiles at the Posco Center in Seoul

Kim Hak-dong, president of Posco's steel business unit, said, "The joint development includes not only steel-based automotive materials, but also automotive materials of other materials such as plastics

Posco and SK Global Chemicals will each provide production and processing technologies for plastic and steel materials to develop steel-plastic composites that are lighter and harder than conventional auto parts

The two companies plan to develop composite materials that can be used to produce battery packs for electric vehicles, plastic materials that maximize adhesion to steel materials, and materials for auto parts (such as chassis) that have greater resistance to external shocks
