Anglo American, a diversified mining company, said on Friday that South Africa's 21-day lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus would have a significant impact
on iron ore and coal guidance.
Anglo American, which was founded in South Africa more than 100 years ago, said production from its Kumba iron ore mine would fall by as much as 3 million tonnes this year, while thermal coal production would fall by 1.
5 to 2 million tonnes

Anglo American noted that rail and port logistics infrastructure supporting exports of both commodities is expected to continue to serve
operations within three weeks.

The Venice diamond mine, run by De Beers, a subsidiary of the group, will operate
at a level where headcount drops to 25 percent.
Anglo American said the Mogalakwena and Mototolo platinum mines, the largest palladium mines outside Russia, continue to operate with reduced labor and production, subject to further planning

Care and maintenance will be carried out at its three platinum production plants (Amandelbult, Modikwa and Kroondal) as well as the Mortimer and
Waterfall smelters.
Anglo American said most of its main operations in other countries had not been materially affected
so far.
However, it extended the construction of the Quellaveco copper mine in Peru and suspended work
on the recently acquired Woodsmith polyhalite project in the UK.
