Steelcase designs and manufactures the first plastic furniture product made from plastic that has undergone chemical or advanced recycling processes
    .

The company says the new nestable Flex Perch chair is made from BASF’s Ultramid B3EG6 Ccycled, an injection-moldable PA6 sourced from waste streams generated during electronics production
    .

This material can directly replace 100% fossil-derived PA6
    .
BASF has developed Ccycled resins within the scope of its ChemCycle project, which focuses on plastic waste that cannot be mechanically recycled for technical, economic or ecological reasons, including residual plastic and mixed plastic waste groups from pre- or post-consumer waste streams.
    points

    .
The waste was originally meant to be landfilled or incinerated

    .
Using pyrolysis technology, these wastes can be converted into high-value virgin quality materials and put back into the value chain, thereby replacing fossil feedstocks and creating new cycles for these materials

    .

"In addition to using recycled materials, Steelcase's Flex Perch Chair is 100 percent recyclable—helping to fulfill Steelcase's mission of 'creating products that benefit people and the environment,'" said Mark Spoelhof, Steelcase Chief Designer
    .

BASF's Ultramid B3EG6 Ccycled material is produced in Wyandotte, Michigan and has been certified by Underwriters Laboratories
    .

Ultramid Ccycled grades using a variety of pre-consumer and post-consumer waste streams can meet recycled content standards through a mass balance system according to UL 2809, Environmental Claims Verification Procedure
    .
These grades have the same characteristics as their traditional counterparts, do not require adjustments to traditional processing methods, and are sustainable raw material alternatives for applications such as packaging films, carpets and furniture

    .
The Flex Perch chair is available now in North America and will launch in Europe, the Middle East and Asia in April 2022
