Recently, Sterlite Power is keen to build an undersea cable to transmit electricity from India's first offshore wind farm off the coast of Gujarat to the national grid, hoping to cooperate with foreign wind power producers to jointly pursue this 1GW offshore wind farm project
.
The project will be partially funded by the European Union and supported
by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the National Wind Energy Institute.
According to the letter of intent, the wind farm is proposed to be built in the sea area at an altitude of 23 to 40 kilometers, located in the annoying Kamba Bay
with an average wind speed of 8.

The project is open
to Indian and foreign companies.
Foreign companies need to have experience in installing offshore wind projects above 500MW to be eligible to bid, while Indian companies with similar onshore project experience can work
with eligible foreign wind developers.
The document said the government would sign a 25-year power purchase agreement
with the successful bidder.
It is understood that India's onshore wind capacity is about 35GW, and Indian officials have been considering building offshore wind farms to expand their wind energy portfolio

The government has released a national offshore wind policy, estimating that Gujarat's coastline has the potential to generate about 106,000 megawatts (106 MW) of offshore wind, while Tamil Nadu has a generating capacity of nearly 60 GW
