According to Taiwanese media reports, Taiwan plans to expand its offshore wind capacity
by implementing measures in three phases.
Taiwan is already identifying potential areas for large-scale development
.
As early as April 30, Taiwanese authorities announced the results of Taiwan's first offshore wind farm auction, marking a milestone
in the island's plan to increase renewable energy production to 20% by 2025.
Announced on Monday, Denmark's Orsted and Germany's WPD were awarded contracts
for 900 MW and 1 GW respectively.
According to MOEA, due to the island's lack of offshore wind development experience, Taiwan will introduce incentives in the first phase to attract industry investment, often accompanied by complex issues and higher risks
.
Taiwan will take action while amending regulations and introducing support measures to address the needs of
the industry.
The next task is to find areas
where wind farms have full potential.
If all goes well, Taiwan will sign contracts with industry players in July this year to ensure that the development project is implemented
as planned.
After regulatory support and infrastructure is completed, Taiwan will take the lead in designating areas suitable for large-scale wind power development in the next phase, which will emphasize the coexistence
of offshore wind harvesting and environmental protection.
