According to a recent joint statement by TEPCO and Danish energy company Ørsted, the two sides have established a new partnership to explore "offshore wind e-commerce machines"
in Japan and overseas.
In November, TEPCO, owner of Fukushima's underutilized nuclear facility, said it was conducting an analysis of the seabed on the Choshi Peninsula east of Tokyo to determine its suitability for offshore wind farms

"We believe that a partnership that combines TEPCO's extensive expertise in Japan's power business with Orsted's unparalleled track record in offshore wind business will help the Choshi Peninsula offshore wind project succeed," Tokyo Electric Power Company President Tomoaki Kobayakawa said in a statement

While the move represents Ørsted's first involvement in Japan's offshore wind industry, the company does have a broader presence
in Asia.
According to CNBC, it is one of the developers of Formosa 1, Taiwan's
first offshore wind project.
Not only that, but it also has four offshore wind farms off the coast of Taiwan with a total capacity of about 2,400 MW
.
As for Japan's offshore wind outlook, Wood Mackenzie analysts expect Japan and neighboring South Korea to have more than 2 GW of overseas wind facilities
by 2027.
