Texas Drilling Permits Increased by 60% in April from Last Year

In April 2021, the well types of the original drilling license were subdivided into 205 oil, 63 natural gas, 434 oil or gas, 22 injection and 8 other licenses.

In April 2021, committee staff processed 449 oil, 106 natural gas and 98 injection completions for new drilling, reentry and recompletion.

So far, the total number of new drilling, re-entry, and re-completion completions in 2021 is 2,924, while the total number of well completions recorded in the same period in 2020 is 5,285.

Texas April drilling permits up 60% over last year

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 732 original drilling permits in April 2021 compared to 456 in April 2020.

The breakdown of well types for original drilling permits in April 2021 is 205 oil, 63 gas, 434 oil or gas, 22 injection, and eight other permits.

In April 2021, Commission staff processed 449 oil, 106 gas and 98 injection completions for new drills, re-entries and re-completions, compared to 981 oil, 246 gas, and 249 injection completions in April 2020.

Total well completions processed for 2021 year-to-date for new drills, re-entries and re-completions are 2,924 compared to 5,285 recorded during the same period in 2020.
