Data released Wednesday by the Global Wind Energy Council confirmed that Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems dominated the global wind turbine supply market in 2018, accounting for 20%
    of the market.

According to the latest data released by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), in 2018, 20,641 wind turbines were installed worldwide, with a cumulative installed capacity of 50,617 MW, and Vestas accounted for more than 20%
    of the supply.

    The report also confirms reports
released earlier this year by Bloomberg New Energy Finance and GlobalData.

In second place is Chinese manufacturer Goldwind, while Siemens Gamesa is third, mainly due to lower installations in the UK, Germany and India in 2018
    .

While well-known companies such as Vestas, Siemens Gamesa and GE Renewable Energy occupy the top five, the GWEC report shows that more than half of the top 15 wind turbine manufacturers in 2018 are located in China
    .

"Despite a 3% decline in market increments in 2018, Tier 1 suppliers' market share is expanding, reflecting that Tier 1's focus on product innovation and value-added solutions is finally paying off," explained Ben Backwell, CEO of GWEC.

Because with the exception of Goldwind, none of the Chinese suppliers have installed enough new wind power
    in overseas markets.

"2018 saw further consolidation on the supply side," Ben Backwell added, "Intense competition from tariff increases to tenders led to the exit of seven other small turbine OEMs last year
    .
This trend is likely to continue in China, despite the fact that there are 19 local turbine OEMs
    in the country.

In 2018, the top 15 wind turbine manufacturers were: Vestas, Goldwind, Siemens Gamesa, GE Renewable Energy, Envision Energy, Enercon, Mingyang Intelligence, Nordex Acciona, United Power, Shanghai Electric Wind Power, Suzlon, Senvion, Yunda Wind Power, CSIC Haizhuang Wind Power and Xiangdian Wind Energy
