Avaroa Cable and Vodafone Cook Islands announced the signing of a multi-year cooperation agreement
using the Manatua submarine cable.
The companies announced that Aitutaki Atoll will be the first island to benefit from the deal, and service on the island has switched to a new submarine cable system

The development makes Vodafone, Avaroa and the Cook Islands among the first companies to use the new cable, which was completed
last month.
According to reports, the 3,634-kilometer-long Manatua submarine cable system consists of two optical fiber pairs, each capable of carrying 10Tbps of data, from Apia, the capital of Western Samoa, to To'ahotu (French Polynesia), and branching to Alofi (Niue), Aitutaki (Cook Islands), Rarotonga (Cook Islands) and Vaitape Island (French Polynesia).
The submarine cable system is jointly owned and operated
by the Post Office and Telecommunications Authority (OPT) of French Polynesia, ACL of the Cook Islands, Telecom Niue (TNL) and Samoa Submarine Cable Company (SSCC).
