Dutch Environment and Housing Minister Stientje van Veldhoven announced on Friday that the Netherlands will introduce a 15-cent deposit system for all plastic beverage bottles less than one liter in volume

Van denhoven said the system was introduced because efforts to reduce small waste plastic bottles had not been effective

Of the 900 million small plastic bottles sold in the Netherlands every year, around 100 million are thrown away

Van den Hoven said the same deposit system was now being considered for canned beverages
