UAE state news agency WAM said on Tuesday that the United Arab Emirates had connected a second unit of its Barakah nuclear power plant to the national grid

The plant, in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafrah region, is the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world and part of
Gulf oil producers' efforts to diversify their energy mix.
The installation has already produced the first megawatt of carbon-free electricity

Barakah's Unit 1 was connected to the national grid
in August 2020.
When completed, Barakah, built by Korea Electric Power Company, will have four reactors with a total capacity of 5,600 megawatts, equivalent to about
25 percent of peak demand in the UAE.
