"Since the beginning of this year, with the steady growth of titanium dioxide production capacity, problems such as soaring raw material prices and supply shortages have also become more prominent

Since the beginning of this year, the titanium dioxide industry has continued to maintain a good momentum of development, and the scale of production capacity has further expanded

It is understood that among the many expansion or new titanium dioxide projects that have been made public, in addition to a few projects that will be completed or basically completed before the end of 2021, at least 8 projects in the industry will be completed and put into production in the next 1 to 2 years.

With the rapid expansion of production capacity, Bi Sheng believes that the industry should pay close attention to the bottleneck of raw material supply

"From 2020 to the present, due to the strong market demand for titanium dioxide, the industry basically has high-load production, the supply and demand relationship of titanium ore has become increasingly tight, and the price has continued to rise.

It is understood that as of now, among the 42 full-process titanium dioxide production enterprises in China, only Panzhihua Iron and Steel, Longbai, Dahutong, China Nuclear Power, and Longteng have their own titanium ore raw material bases.

According to publicly available information, the total production capacity of the chlorination process will reach at least 650,000 tons/year from 2021 to 2022, of which the boiling process production capacity will be more than 600,000 tons/year

Bi Sheng pointed out that for the new chlorination titanium dioxide project, in addition to high investment and high-end technology and talents, the source of titanium raw materials is also a key issue
