Comprehensive foreign media reported that a trans-Arctic submarine cable system Polar Express will be completed and put into operation
in 2026.
Currently, the fiber optics required for the system are being produced
by a production plant in Murmansk.
According to reports, the total length of the system reaches 12,650 kilometers, including a land route connecting Murmansk to Terribelka, and a submarine cable route into the water from Teriberka, which will cross the Barents Sea to Adema
in the Nenets Autonomous Region.
The system will extend the route along the Northern Sea Route to Petropavlovsk-Kamtsalsky and Yud-Sakarinsk
on the Pacific coast.
Russia's final leg is currently planned in Vladivostok, but connections
to other East Asian countries may be added in the future.
UPT, which is responsible for the development of the project, will invest 65 billion rubles ($872 million) in the deployment of the system
.
The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation revealed that 150 optical repeaters
will be installed along the cable.
Polar Express will consist of six pairs of fibers: four pairs will be used for traffic demand from Europe to Asia and two pairs will be used for land demand
.
The total transmission speed of the cable is expected to reach 104Tbps, and the project completion date is currently set for 2026
