Recently, Japanese battery manufacturer Toshiba announced that they have successfully developed a new generation of lithium-ion batteries for vehicles, which can travel 320 kilometers in only 6 minutes on a charge, and are expected to be commercially available
in 2019.
Toshiba officially announced that it has successfully developed a new generation of automotive lithium-ion electronic batteries, which are referred to as SCiB
.
It is an upgraded version of Toshiba's super lithium-ion electronic battery introduced in 2008, which can travel 320 kilometers
in just 6 minutes on a charge under the test of Japan's JC08 standard.
At present, the traditional electric vehicle lithium battery takes an average of 30 minutes to charge 80% of the charge, and the battery can reach 90% of the charge and drive 320 kilometers in addition to 6 minutes of charging, and can still maintain more than 90% of the battery capacity
after 5,000 times of charging and discharging.
Compared with the traditional lithium-ion electronic battery, which is prone to slow charging at low temperatures, the battery can also achieve fast charging in a low temperature environment of minus 10°, and it can still be used
normally at minus 30°.
It is understood that the battery successfully developed by Toshiba this time uses a lithium-ion electronic battery with titanium niobium oxide as the negative electrode material, and its lithium-ion electron storage capacity is twice that of the lithium battery with graphite as the negative electrode material
.
In addition, the new generation of SCiB batteries is expected to be commercially available
in 2019.
However, the battery manufacturer that announced the realization of fast battery charging is not only Toshiba, Samsung also showed the latest automotive battery products at the 2018 North American Auto Show, which can achieve fast battery charging in 20 minutes and reach a cruising range of 600 kilometers
.
In addition, Samsung Electronics also demonstrated "graphene ball" technology, an innovative technology that increases capacity by 45% and charging speed
by 5 times compared to standard lithium-ion and solid-state batteries.
With the continuous development of new energy vehicles, the demand for lithium batteries is also growing
.
At present, Panasonic, LG Chem, and Samsung Electronics still dominate the current global high-performance lithium battery market
.
Major battery manufacturers are establishing cooperation strategies with established traditional car companies and many startups, and competition in this field will become more fierce
in the future.
