UK Chemicals' second-quarter profit margins come under pressure

On May 6, the British Chemical Industry Association (CIA) released data showing that the British chemical industry is expected to continue to grow in sales in the second quarter on the basis of seven consecutive quarters of expansion, but profit margins are under pressu.

The CIA said the latest results of a regular business survey underscored the industry's resilience, with a majority of respondents saying sales revenue rose in the first quarter, with strong growth in exports and the domestic market boosting producti.

CIA CEO Steve Elliott said: "Our industry has once again demonstrated extraordinary performance amid sharp increases in energy and raw material costs with little sign of abati.
