UK launches agricultural plastic collection scheme

The Agency for Agriculture, Plastics and the Environment (APE UK) has launched a national collection of non-packaging agricultural plasti.

From silage plastic wrap to crop mulch, "agriplastics" play a vital role in improving farming efficiency and controlling parameters such as temperature, light and pes.

The UK market has 44,000 tonnes of this plastic every year, at least 60% of which comes from agricultural producti.

To provide farmers with a solution for the sustainable disposal of agricultural plastics, APE UK's national collection programme, launched at the RECOUP conference in Peterborough on 26 September, will be under the principles of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework , ensuring equal and cost-effective access to all agribusiness.

The recycling scheme will cover the entire UK and farmers, distributors and producers will share responsibility for plastic recycli.
