US finance official: The G7 price limit on Russian oil is not aimed at OPEC

On October 19, local time, Reuters quoted a US Treasury official as saying that the new measures taken by the G7 to limit Russian oil sales to mandatory low prices will not target the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The official said the U.

government has communicated with OPEC representatives to assure them that plans for Russia will be somewhat limited and OPEC will not be targeted by
the United States and its allies.

Reuters commented that Saudi Arabia, the largest oil exporter and the de facto leader of OPEC, could help ease tensions between the United States and Saudi Arabia
