Brazilian mining giant Vale is working with Siemens and MicroPower Comerc to build a 5MW/10MWh lithium-ion battery system
in a large port facility in Rio de Janeiro.

The system will be owned and operated by MicroPower Comerc, which features the first Tesla Megapacks
    deployed in Brazil.
The construction of this energy storage system is planned for industrial "peak shaving" and cost savings for Vale
    .

The project will be the largest battery energy storage system in Brazil and is an important step
    for the Brazilian electricity market.
Despite being a pioneer in clean energy, with wind and solar power already approaching 20GW, Brazil's energy storage market is virtually non-existent, plagued
by high import taxes and a lack of supportive policies.

Energy storage systems will help charge when demand is low and discharge
    during peak demand.
    Vale's project coincides
with the global trend of decarbonization by mining companies and unprecedented growth in clean energy procurement.
