Recently, Vattenfall has announced plans to invest up to 100 million euros ($123 million) in the development of solar projects
over the next two years.
The investment will be primarily used for existing infrastructure that can be used to reduce costs
for utility-scale plants.
Sweden's state-owned utility also wants to offer small-scale solar power
to private and corporate customers.
Vattenfall is particularly interested in the potential co-location
of new solar projects with existing wind farms.
In 2016, the company completed a 5MW ground-mounted solar farm at the Parc Cynog wind project site in Wales, with two generators sharing a grid connection
.
In late 2017, Vattenfall considered the pilot program a great success, prompting the company to investigate further applications
for such hybrid installations.
Vattenfall's President and CEO said, "As an 'important addition' to wind turbines, we are now increasing our investment budget for solar power projects to meet the increased interest and demand
from our customers.
From the standpoint of electricity consumers, they can all get electricity
from our future solar farms.

The company noted that it recently approved investment decisions for three similar joint projects in the Netherlands with a total capacity of about 10.

It has also received approval for a 40MW project to be built jointly with the Haringvliet wind farm, and construction plans
are currently being developed.
Several other projects in the same location are described as being in other planning stages, and Vattenfall said it is closely monitoring regulatory developments in other countries, particularly the next round of auctions
in Germany.
