WITTMANN has been a world-renowned manufacturer of high-quality robotic arms for decades

    .

Its standard product pick and place features have been continuously improved in recent years

    .

In order to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of customers and simplify selection, WITTMANN developed the PRIMUS series of robots two years ago

    .

The PRIMUS series robots are typically used for product pick and place and simple less complex inlay applications

    .

Therefore, at the 2019 K exhibition, WITTMANN exhibited a new series of ultra-high-speed robots for the first time: SONIC series robots

    .

Different from PRIMUS series manipulators, WITTMANN has also launched SONIC series manipulators suitable for various types of applications

    .

Currently available models are SONIC 131, SONIC 142 and SONIC 143

    .

These robots cover injection molding machines with a clamping force ranging from 150 to 500t

    .

The new SONIC manipulator is based on the UHS series manipulator (ultra-high-speed application) that WITTMANN has been producing for more than 20 years, and is called an ultra-high-speed manipulator due to its ultra-short product pick-and-place cycle
    .

SONIC series robots can be used for product pick and place with molding cycle times as low as 4 seconds
    .

However, short-cycle applications are only one of many, as applications with longer production times can also benefit from this group of highly dynamic applications
    .

Product gripping times of less than 0.
9 seconds also help significantly increase the productivity of this production cell

    .

For safe product pick-and-place, the clamping procedure can only be initiated when all product is firmly grasped by the gripper
    .

Compared to the production form in which the product is in free fall, this method causes only a minimal increase in the production cycle
    .

However, the surface quality of the product is improved, and the product can be placed in stacks, each with the same amount of product, which also simplifies subsequent packaging or other processes
    .

Therefore, customers will benefit from these numerous additional advantages
    .

SONIC series manipulators are now available with load capacities ranging from 3 to 7kg
    .

Consistent with typical slender gripper designs, the air supply and signal components for the gripper are located inside the SONIC manipulator longitudinal axis to prevent any additional safety restrictions after entering the mold area
    .

This is also the common practice of other WITTMANN robots.
In order to ensure a short response time, the clamp is directly installed on the vertical axis with a solenoid valve

    .

SONIC robots use the following strokes as standard:

            • X-axis: 500 ~ 900 mm

            • Y-axis: 800 ~ 1600 mm

            • Z-axis: 1500 ~ 4000 mm

Itinerary requirements beyond this range can be customized
    .

The manipulators of this series have extraordinary dynamics due to their acceleration of 65 m/s²
    .
(That acceleration surpasses that of Formula Rossa, the world's fastest roller coaster, whose passengers are stressed by a whopping 4.
    8 g of acceleration

    .
    )

At K 2019, the new SONIC range of robots was demonstrated in two applications
    .

At the WITTMANN BATTENFELD booth, the SONIC 143 manipulator manipulated 48 sets of suction/clamps for injection molding of medical plastic parts (blood collection bottles)
    .

A SONIC 142 tandem manipulator was also on display at the WITTMANN booth: two manipulators mounted on a Z-axis crossbeam demonstrate high precision and dynamics
    .

WITTMANN SONIC super high-speed series manipulators are available for pre-order from today!
