Zambia is seeking proposals from potential solar power project developers, with a projected total capacity of 200 MW
    , Reuters reported.

Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa said in a statement at an investment conference that the 200 MW will be divided into smaller projects, each with a maximum size of 20 MW
    .

Zambia relies heavily on hydropower and faced power shortages after a 2016 drought, forcing Africa's second-largest copper producer to distribute power
    to its mines.

Enel's head of green power Africa, Asia and Oceania said it told Reuters at the same meeting that African countries should invest in technologies
    other than hydropower.

Enel Green Power has already started construction of five wind projects in South Africa, which will add 700 megawatts of electricity
to its production when completed in the next few years.
