A recent study by the Brazilian Institute of Consumer Protection (Idec) found that 14 of the 24 types ofultra - processed meat and dairy foods commonly eaten by Brazilians contain pesticide residues

Brazil's G1 website reported that, according to the research report, the six ultra-processed food types identified as pesticide residues included: fried chicken, fresh cheese, pork sausage, salami, sausage (salsicha) and beef burge.
Due to the limitations of research methods, it is not yet possible to confirm whether pesticide residues will cause harm to human heal.

Idec pointed out that the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) does not set an upper limit on the amount of pesticide residues in ultra-processed produc.
The study was conducted in the form of laboratory analysis and detected residues of up to 653 pesticid.
The types and brands of foods that Brazilians consume the most are selected by the Institute based on the results of the Household Budget Survey and several market studi.

The results of the study showed that the three types of foods with the most pesticide residues were fried chicken nuggets and fresh chee.
In addition, all meat products also have pesticide residu.
Among the 14 kinds of foods where pesticide residues were found, the most types of pesticides were detected in Seara fried chicken, and a total of 5 kinds of drugs were detect.

Syrah Foods responded: "Syrah Foods provided Idec with technical details on the 'problem food' in March 2022, but unfortunately found that the clarification information was not included in the published repo.
All analysed (Syrah) products are in compliance with the food specifications issued by Anvi.

In this study, pesticides were not detected in only two types of ultra-processed foods, including ultra-processed yogurt and chocolate-flavored dairy beverag.
But Idec researchers believe that this does not prove that the food is free of pesticide residu.
"The laboratory only analyzed one batch of produ.
A negative test result for the product analyzed may prove that the same batch of food does not contain pesticide residues, but there may still be problems with other batches of food," they not.

Careful washing of food does minimize the risk of health damage from some pesticides, but some chemicals in pesticides can get into crop cel.
Therefore, the use of pesticides is still controversi.
