    6 standards respond to the EU RoHS Directive

    [China Epoxy Industry Online] November 29, 2005: The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the State Certification and Accreditation Administration recently officially released 6 test method standards for the EU RoHS Directive, which will be implemented in January 2006, with 18 The list of laboratories undertaking the task of testing toxic and hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products will be announced at the same time.
    These six testing method standards were drafted by Shenzhen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and passed expert appraisal.
    They used atomic fluorescence spectroscopy, flame atomic absorption spectrometry, diphenylcarbazide spectrophotometry, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, HPLC method and GC-MS method for six restricted substances.
    On January 27, 2003, the European Union passed the "Directive on Restricting the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (RoHS Directive), requiring that from July 1, 2006, the European electrical and electronic equipment must not contain lead, Mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers are six harmful substances.


    The prohibition of polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers and heavy metals in the directive has essentially shifted the pressure on environmental protection from electromechanical manufacturers to suppliers of plastic parts, resin raw materials and additives.
    People from the China Epoxy Resin Industry Association (style="vertical-align: inherit;"> ) pointed out that the directive has caused domestic flame-retardant products including epoxy resins that use bromine to face difficulties.
