    A new set of protein switches discovered in a sub-journal of Nature

    A team of researchers at the University of Göttingen in Germany initially discovered a new protein switch -- dubbed the "NOS switch" because nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur atoms are linked to each other -- in a protein derived from the human pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae in protein


    New NOS switches are found in all areas of life, and often in protein sites that are critical to biological function


    "We believe that the discovery of these new protein switches will be a stepping stone to the development of a new class of drugs that directly target these switches," Tittmann said
