Phylogenetic analysis using the mitochondrial ND2 gene fragment showed that the Jinjiang gecko is an independent evolutionary branch, and it is a sister group with the gecko Gekko scabridus .

The discovery of the Jinjiang gecko provides an important model for the study of the mechanism of radiation diffusion of tropical and subtropical gecko species to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
The research was funded by the second comprehensive scientific investigation of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the biodiversity survey and evaluation project of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
