    into an outbreak of infectious disease caused by Listeria found in Big Olaf Creamery-branded ice cream, according to the U.

    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declared the outbreak over
    on November 2.
     
    The CDC reported that 28 people from 11 states fell ill
    in the ice cream contamination incident.
    Of these patients, 27 were hospitalized and one died, including one pregnant woman who had a miscarriage
    .
     
    The patient's sample was collected from 24 January 2021 to 19 August 2022
    .
    Patients ranged in age from less than 1 year to 92 years
    .
    The last known onset was 24 June 2022
    .
     
    Big Olaf Creamery of Sarasota, Florida, recalled all ice cream
    on July 13.
    With the assistance of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, its facilities were closed
    by the Florida Department of Health.
     
    Florida officials found that 16 of the 17 flavors of Big Olaf Creamery's brand of ice cream were contaminated
    with Listeria monocytogenes.
    They also found pathogens
    in production facilities at the company's plants.
     
    The state Department of Agriculture performed whole-genome sequencing on samples collected from finished products and devices, and they matched
    samples from outbreak patients.
     
    Full sales details of the ice cream are unclear, but most of it is retailed
    in Florida.
    According to the FDA, some are offered to consumers in restaurants and nursing homes, as well as a location in Fredericksburg, Ohio
    .
    Some patients reportedly traveled to Florida and ate ice cream
    before falling ill.
     
    These patients are known to be distributed in Colorado (1), Florida (14), Georgia (1), Illinois (1), Kansas (1), Nebraska (1), Massachusetts (2), Minnesota (1), New Jersey (1), New York (4), and Pennsylvania (1).
