Recently, the research results of the collaboration between Professor Jin Honglin's group of Huazhong Agricultural University's School of Biomedicine and Health and Professor Yang Kunyu's group of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology were published in Nano Today

    Nano Today

Immunotherapy, especially the immune checkpoint block (ICB) targeting the programmed death-1 (PD-1)/programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) pathway, has changed the paradigm of cancer treatment

The study found that the ultrafiltration concentrate (RT-UF) of tumor cells after radiotherapy can effectively stimulate the activation and maturation of dendritic cells

To this end, the team independently developed a therapeutic peptide hydrogel cross-linked with PEG and melittin-peptide, which has the characteristics of slow drug release, improved cell membrane permeability, and rapid induction of tumor cell death

The data shows that the combination of UF@MRP and anti-PD -1 monoclonal antibody can cure about 43% of mice with malignant ascites, and produce a strong immune memory effect on the cured mice

The study found that the radiotherapy ultrafiltrate has a strong immunomodulatory function, which can reshape the tumor immune microenvironment; through the optimized melittin hydrogel loaded with the radiotherapy ultrafiltrate, it can exert a strong anti-tumor effect; Ascites mice are used as a model, and a concept of "indirect tumor radiotherapy" is proposed, which realizes the effective control of locally advanced and extensively metastatic tumors, and has strong clinical translational value
