American studies say humans reason at the age of one

They divided 144 infants who had not yet learned to speak into two groups, half of whom were about 12 months old and the other half 19 months old. The results showed that if the second object was replaced with the same object as the first object during the unveiling of the cover, the child would show a confused expression, gaze at the object for longer periods of time, and the pupil would enlarge.
