According to the latest data from the Chilean Association of Fruit Exporters (Asoex), as of the 50th week of 2022 (12-18 December), Chilean cherries exported a total of 236705 tonnes in the 2022/23 season, up 110% year-on-year, and exports of cherries by land, sea and air have increased
    .

Chile's Mundo Marítimo website reported on December 28 that data showed that as of the 50th week of 2022, Chilean cherries were exported by sea in 2022/23 216383 tons, an increase of 122% year-on-year, air cherries were exported 16,738 tons (+40%), and ground cherries were exported 3,583 tons (+29%)
    .

The Asoex Cherry Commission expects total Chilean cherry exports to rise 25% in the 2022/23 season to nearly 90 million cartons, or 446769 tonnes, surpassing the previous season's record
    of 356348 tonnes.
At this stage, Chilean cherries are optimistic about the export situation this season, and the total export value is expected to exceed 2 billion US dollars
    .

Asoex Chairman Iván Marambio said that the growth in cherry exports is related to the early start of the season, with the early start of the Chinese New Year in 2023 and the peak period of Chilean cherry exports to China earlier
    .
Chilean cherries are expected to account for about 90% of total exports to China this season, and the export figures now appear to be "in line with the cherry committee's forecasts"
    .

Among Chile's main export destinations, Chinese mainland and Hong Kong have received about 211686 tonnes of cherries, up 126% from the same period last quarter, and the United States has received 6,759 tonnes (+28%)
    .

Jorge Valenzuela, president of the Federation of Chilean Fruit Producers (Fedefruta), said: "It is very important
for us that cargo ships are arriving in China and cherries are constantly flowing.
At present, there are still a large number of cherries on their way to China and will arrive before the Lunar New Year, and we hope that normal logistics transportation will continue to ensure that cherries can arrive at their destination on time and be sold quickly
    .

Despite the fact that the Chilean truckers' strike at the end of November affected transport efforts after the start of the cherry season, the outlook for cherry exports remains positive
    .

"The situation was complicated by the fact that the strike hampered the movement of containers, and our fruit processing plant was
unable to receive cherries for three days.
Fortunately, the problem was solved in time, the negative impact of the strike has been diluted, and hopefully there will be no new strikes
before the end of the season.
    Valenzuela added
    .

Marambio also stressed that the truckers' strike "ended on a key date, thus avoiding a negative impact on the cherry industry"
