An international team of researchers has developed a "blood age-testing" method that can reliably determine a person's actual age and physical condition by detecting certain protein levels in the blood.The team, led by Stanford University, analyzed plasma samples from 4,263 people between the ages of 18 and 95. It was found that the levels of certain proteins in the plasma changed significantly with age. The researchers measured the levels of about 3,000 proteins and selected 373 proteins that could be used to determine age.
By measuring the levels of the 373 proteins in the plasma, the researchers said, a person's actual age can be more accurately determined, usually under three years of age. However, there are times when the measured age differs greatly from the actual age. If the age was measured to be significantly lower than the actual age, the subjects were in very healthy health.
