Brazil's coffee exports reached a record 44.5 million bags (60 kg per bag) in 2020, taking into account the sum of green coffee, instant coffee, roasted and ground coffee, the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Association (Cecafé) said Wednesday.
nelson Carvalhaes, president of the association, said market trends suggest exports will continue to grow, but could be affected by the crop's production cuts and last year's prolonged dry weather, according to Brazil's G1 website.
coffee consists mainly of Arabica beans.
35.5 million bags of Alabica beans were exported last year, up 8.4 per cent year-on-year and a record for exports of the variety.
exports of robusta coffee beans reached 4.9m bags, up 24.3 per cent from 2019 and a record level, according to Cecafé.
exported 4.1 million bags of instant coffee last year, up 2.4 percent from 2019 and also a record high.
are going through a challenging period because of the new coronavirus pandemic, " said the president of the New Coronary Association.
of our greatest gains during this period was breaking the record.
the new crown outbreak around the world has changed the way drinks are consumed, and people are no longer going to coffee shops, but not stopping drinking coffee, according to the Society for the Prevention of Alcohol and Development.
addition to increased household consumption, new sales models such as online sales of coffee beans have also developed.
second global outbreak has triggered new closures in some countries.
said consumers' behaviour would be assessed.
warned: "Domestic consumption should remain strong, but foreign sales will continue to be adversely affected by these closures, particularly in Europe."
, brazil's biggest buyer of coffee last year was still the United States, which exported 8.1 million bags of coffee, or about 18.3 percent of total exports, according to the Report.
second largest buyer was Germany, which bought 7.6m bags of Brazilian coffee, or about 17.1 per cent of total exports.
then Belgium, buying 3.7m bags of coffee, or about 8.4 per cent of Brazil's total exports.
s coffee exports grew by 8.8 per cent and 3.8 per cent, respectively, on the two continents most affected by the outbreak, Europe and North America," mr Cavalyans said.
