According to a report by Burundi’s "Economics Daily" on September 10, in Burundi , beverages containing high concentrations of ethanol are still packaged in plastic bottles .
This is harmful to health and the environment, and the country has promised to adopt a policy to reduce plastic packaging .

The Burundi Quality Standards Authority (BBN) recently demanded that manufacturers step up reforms in the packaging of alcoholic beverages
    .
The organization issued a document on August 30, 2021 with the subject of "Packaging Restrictions" and issued a ban on processing institutions engaged in the production of alcoholic beverages: that is, from now on, alcoholic beverages with an ethanol content of more than 16.
5%, if they are packaged in plastic, will No longer certified
    .

The organization wrote in the instructions to the public and manufacturers that a BNN mark license can be applied for a certificate that meets the standard, and alcohol products with an ethanol content of 16.
5% will no longer be packaged in a bottle with a minimum volume of 200 ml.
    Be accepted
    .
In fact, if the alcohol products on the market do not meet the new standards, manufacturers will not be able to obtain BBN application permits unless they change the packaging
    .
BBN gave a six-month grace period to clear the manufacturer's inventory
    .

Drinks with high alcohol content are available all over the country
    .
Whether in the city or in the countryside, whether in a bar or on the shelf of a store, people do not hesitate to buy them
    .
These beverages are usually sold in small quantities and at low prices, with more low-income consumers
    .
After the introduction of the New Deal, the price of alcoholic beverages will be slightly increased, which can prevent alcoholism to a certain extent
    .
The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that whether it is an individual or a society, drinking has a certain potential social and health crisis, not only for drinkers, but also for others
    .
The price of alcoholic beverages should be increased to weaken its impact on society
    .

BBN's measures are also in line with the country's environmental protection policy.
Unlike most other materials, half of the plastics manufactured in the world will become waste within a year
    .
Once thrown into nature, some plastic products can take hundreds of years to completely decompose
    .
If it takes 450 years for a plastic bag to decompose, then it may take 1,000 years for a plastic bottle to disappear from the earth
    .
In Burundi, the recycling mechanism for plastic packaging is not well developed
    .
Therefore, BBN has become the vanguard against plastic pollution by restricting the use of plastic packaging
