    The Canadian federal government received an application for approval of heavy calcium carbonate as a colorant for use in hard and soft candies and edible inks printed on the surface of the candies.
    The Ministry of Health found no safety hazards in its assessment, so it plans to revise the list of permitted food enzymes to allow heavy calcium carbonate to be used as a coloring agent in non-standardized candies.
     
    The deadline for notification and comment is 75 days after the notification is issued.
