A super-hydrophobic coating (PC-a / SiO 2) has been developed on low-carbon steels for applications of corrosion-resistant coatings by combining cashew-based polyphenyl and ammonia-modified silicon dioxide nanoparticles.
the thermocturing behavior of PC-a/SiO 2 coatings was studied by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. A durable PC-a/SiO 2 coating with a static water contact angle of 162.8±2.9 degrees maintains its ultra-hydrophobic properties
even after 1 h of heat treatment at 250 degrees C or 10 days of immersion in a 3.5 wt% NaCl
.
excellent corrosion resistance
electrochemical measurements show that PC-a/SiO 2 coatings exhibit excellent corrosion resistance during prolonged immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl aqueous solutions. It is expected that cashew phenol-based polyphenyl and phenolic ultra-hydrophobic coatings are expected to be used in corrosion-resistant practical applications.
the study was published in Organic Coatings Progress Volume 136, November 2019, 105191.
